Oscar Arias video in honor of the Global Day of Action on Military Spending

17 April, 2012 is the Global Day of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS).
Please watch this 5-minute video put together by the former Costa Rican President and 1987 Nobel Peace Prize winner Oscar Arias in honor of the Global Day of Action on Military Spending!
Without an army, Costa Rica has been able to invest public resources in the public interest - education, healthcare, development, humanity. Arias shares his thoughts on what might happen if the whole world shared the Costa Rican vision of a peaceful and just world - one with no armies, where human security is not measured in missiles.

Óscar Arias, president of Costa Rica (1986-1990, 2006-2010), won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987 for his peacemaking efforts in Central America. Without any armed forces, Costa Rica is now a global model for demilitarization and the amazing social benefits it offers.

In this moving speech, Arias endorses the Global Day of Action on Military Spending and encourages people around the world to demand demilitarization as the first step towards achieving true human security and development.
